Jessica has been teaching in Oakland since 2007. She is a GLAD Certified Agency Trainer and was honored as OUSD and Alameda Teacher of the Year in 2021 and a Finalist for CA Teacher of Year 2022. She supports elementary newcomer students across Oakland, working closely with a team of amazing Elementary Newcomer Teacher Leaders. Additionally, she launched SAILL Newcomer Summer School pilot for elementary students in OUSD to provide a robust, language-rich, and fun summer learning experience for newcomer students while teachers expand their integrated ELD skills by team teaching GLAD science units with supports such as modeling, coaching, observations, and PD around GLAD strategies. Along with her team, she offers GLAD PLCs throughout the school year for teachers to continue refreshing and integrating GLAD strategies into district-adopted curriculum to support access, rigor, and language production for students across all levels of language proficiency.
