My name is Joseph Theam, and I work as a fiduciary Financial Consultant regarding your OUSD Retirement and Financial Benefits through Equitable Advisors. I primarily meet with new staff to explain the state pension and enroll them in their 403(b) plan, which is essentially the public sector’s version of a 401(k) plan.

As a holistic advisor, I can also assist with the following topics:
Oakland Public Education Fund - New Teacher Supply Fund:
The Oakland Public Education Fund knows that teachers, especially those just beginning their careers, are greatly impacted by the lingering effects of the pandemic, inflation, and living in a high-cost-of-living area. We also know that most teachers pay out of pocket for basic supplies needed to bring their lessons to life.
.
We want to help the newest generation of teachers prepare their classrooms and students for success, which is why we are awarding New Teacher Supply Mini-grants this fall! This pilot program will provide up to $500 for first- or second-year teachers to spend on classroom essentials like reams of paper, classroom furniture and decorations, incentives, art materials, athletic equipment, and more.
.
Applications will open the week of July 29 and remain open until August 25. Decisions will be announced in early September. If awarded, funds will be available immediately until June 30, 2025.
